Its been 70 years since the birth of National Mencap, and during that time, it has become the leading UK charity for people with learning disabilities and their families.

As part of the celebrations, HRH The Countess of Wessex, hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace, to which representatives of many local groups were invited.  The Countess has been patron of the Royal Mencap Society since taking over from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Ealing Mencap was represented by Our Chair of trustees George Venus (who is also on the board of trustees of the Royal Mencap Society), our CEO Lesley Dodd and head of Business Support Maureen Schofield.

Lesley Dodd describes the evening as:  Inspirational, wonderful evening, and a fantastic opportunity to see inside Buckingham Palace
