Ealing Mencap is one of the leading learning disability charities in West London. We are passionate about our role in supporting and enabling children and adults to have every opportunity in life to achieve their potential. Ensuring participation at all levels is central to our vision.

Thanks to funding from the Local Authority we are seeking a seasoned professional who can lead participation activities across the borough, working in partnership to influence change to improve people’s lives.

You will work directly with children and young people with SEN/learning disabilities and adults who access social care support as well as the families and professionals that support them. Continuing the work already in process you will further develop a culture of participation that precedes a culture of valuing the voice of all.

To make sure local need is met and aspiration is heard your role will involve providing strategic level support to assist statutory bodies, voluntary, educational, and private sectors across Ealing to ensure services are truly person-centred and outcome focused

This is a part-time role, working 4 days per week, and will require some flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events/meetings.

    Ealing Mencap is a charity dedicated to providing advice and high-quality social, personal development and training opportunities for people with learning disabilities, as well as their families and carers, in the London Borough of Ealing and nearby.

    Ealing Mencap makes a huge positive contribution to the lives of the children and young people that use their services, and also to their families. They do this by:

    • Offering a range of after school activities which enable their children to socialise and develop confidence and new skills
    • Training and supporting children and young people in a range of critical life skills especially independent travel training;
    • giving families a much-needed respite break from their caring responsibilities;
    • Raising awareness about those with additional needs in the Ealing community.

    “We are a local group that is affiliated to the national Mencap, but we are independently run and funded.  Ealing Mencap has existed for more than 50 years, founded originally by a committed group of local parents and carers in 1965. They continue to keep their Ealing families at the heart of their services as they strive for a better future for children and young people with disabilities. For many years, social clubs and other services were run on a voluntary basis until the late 1980s, as the focus shifted towards local charities employing staff to deliver services to a professional standard.

    The years since then have seen steady growth in the overall number and diversity of services that Ealing Mencap offers, with our priorities to improve people’s quality of life, campaign, enable participation, and give people a voice, at the heart of all that we do. Ealing Mencap are proud of their charity’s roots. In 2016/17 we worked with over 2000 children and adults with learning disabilities.”

    In 2017 we launched our three-year strategy plan Reaching Our Potential, which outlines our vision, mission and values. After consultation with our staff, our customers and carers, we are confident that the plan gives us a clear direction to offer the best possible support to anyone who comes to Ealing Mencap.
